The Three Jewels. “I take refuge in the Buddha. I take refuge in the Dharma, I take refuge in the Sangha.” The Buddha - The Buddha did not regard himself as a god, but rather as a teacher. He was a human being, who, through the cycle of suffering, had gained liberation and spiritual awakening. Through his enlightenment, the Buddha had liberated himself from the cycle of suffering and pain, which would become the main focus of Buddhism as a religion. The Buddha taught to anyone who would listen that they must save themselves and thus he was not a saviour. The Dharma – “The Dharma is the law or truth of the Buddha’s teachings” . The Buddha’s deliverance of his teachings emphasises ‘awakening’ and it is believed that all human beings, in their deepest nature, are already enlightened. This means that everyone must awake to their true selves, which the Dharma assists them in doing so. The first sign of awakening is the realisation that ordinary life is not satisfactory, meaning that we have recognised that there is a better way of being. The Buddha also teaches that our suffering has a cure, which comes from our knowledge of the cause. Our suffering is due to our ignorance and desires which causes us to suffer, but we can relieve this suffering by ridding ourselves of our desires and getting in touch with ourselves. This teaching is summarised in the Four Noble Truths, which in the last truth, reveals the Eightfold Path, which will lead a Buddhist to enlightenment. “To take refuge in the Dharma means to allow oneself to learn from the Buddha’s teachings.” The Sangha – “The Sangha is the monastic order that the Buddha founded” (Coleman, 2006, p. 48). It is the community of Buddhists who follow the Buddha’s Dharma. It is an important part of Buddhism, as it allows Buddhists to connect and communicate with other followers who are like minded to them, and allows them to share their experiences and knowledge. This sharing and understanding can improve how a Buddhist approaches their path to enlightenment. To take refuge in the Sangha allows a Buddhist to connect with like-minded people, assisting them on their path to enlightenment through constructive feedback, from those who accept the same values as them.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).WORLD VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST ORDER=BUDDHIST DHARMA WHEEL GOLDEN MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.25/3/2022.
