Four passing sights of Buddhism.
The Old Man
This was the Siddhartha's First Passing Sight
The first encounter in his life with a non-perfect human
He realizes that everyone eventually grows old, even his loved ones
The Old Man
Everyone Grows old Eventually
Even the people that the Siddhartha knows and loves will grow old. It is the first unevitable misfortune of life he comes across. He now realizes that the world isn't perfect and he has been wrong his whole life thinking that it was.
The Sick Man
This is the second passing sight that Siddhartha found.
Siddhartha realizes that there are multiple imperfections with human life.
Sickness and disease happens all the time and is a real issue that we must deal with.
The Sick Man
No one can Live a Pain-Free Life
Disease and illness in another inevitable hardship of human life. Illness can and will affect to everyone, even royalty. Siddhartha now as a deeper understanding that life is not perfect.
The Dead Man
This is the third passing sight
The Dead Man
Siddhartha realizes death is inevitable and everyone will experience it.
Siddhartha became troubled because he didnt want to come to terms with the reality of society.
Life on Earth Will Come to an End
Of the first three passing sights, this is the most influencial to Siddhartha. He has never experienced death. He has to come to terms that he and everyone he loves will die and they just have to life the life they were given to its fullest.
The Ascetic Man
The fourth and final Passing Sight
The Ascetic is a holy man who lives his life in search of the cause of human suffering hoping to end it
This gave Siddhartha hope, he wanted to be like the ascetic.
His Final Lesson
Siddhartha realized that when one has no material belongings, then one is free and has time to think and reflect on his life and others around him. As he took this sight and combined it with the first three, he realized that life is a precious gift even though it is not perfect. The religion of Buddha claims to have a number of Buddhas in its doctrine. The Buddha, literally translated as the awakened one or the enlightened one, is the being who has found a way to end the suffering of all the living beings in existence.
